Houses
Key features
House teams
Create named Houses with colours, mottos, Discord roles, optional channels, and member counters so the community has visible team identity.
Automatic sorting
Members join through automatic sorting, which prefers Houses with fewer members and adds a little randomness so the result is not completely predictable. Members blocked from a House are sorted into another one.
House Cup seasons
Run scheduled Cup seasons where Houses compete for points, wins, and seasonal recognition.
Captains and elections
Each House has a single elected leader, the captain. Members can call elections, nominate themselves, and vote for candidates to elect or replace the captain through configured governance rules.
Moderation and recruiting
Captains can exile disruptive members and pardon them later, members can resign, and captains can spend House funds to bribe a member of another House into joining.
House points and boosts
Track lifetime and seasonal points, accept House currency donations, and let the captain spend House currency on a rally that boosts both XP and currency rewards for House members.
Best for
Communities that want long-running teams, factions, or identity groups.
Servers that want seasonal competition with winners, breaks, and recurring Cup announcements.
Roleplay, school, gaming, or fan communities where elected team leadership adds a social layer.
How it works
Staff configure Houses
Add two to four Houses, choose names, colours, roles, and optional channels.
Members join a House
Members join from Discord. Nox sorts the member into the smallest eligible House and assigns the configured Discord role when it can. A member blocked from a House (by exile or resignation) is sorted into a different one.
House activity earns points
House points are separate from House currency. Quest rewards and supported economy actions can award House points for lifetime totals and active Cup seasons. Donations move member currency into the House currency balance.
Cup and governance run over time
Cup seasons start and end on schedule. Election support, nomination windows, voting windows, captain permissions, cooldowns, rallies, and House currency balances are handled by the House system.
Member actions
Use the House command group in Discord for member-facing actions.
| Action | Who can use it | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| /house join | Members who are not already in a House. | Sorts the member into the smallest House they are not blocked from. Existing House members get an already-in-House message instead. |
| /house info | House members. | Shows the member's current House, captain, motto, achievements, points, top contributors, election status, and discovery buttons for donations and election support. |
| /house resign | House members. | Leaves the member's current House. They are blocked from rejoining that House until a captain pardons them, but can still be sorted into another House. |
| /house donate | House members with enough member currency. | Moves the chosen amount from the member's currency balance into their House currency balance. |
| /house bribe | The House captain. | Spends House funds to send a member of another House a bribe (the chosen amount). It appears in their inventory; accepting it moves them into your House and pays them that amount. Funds are only spent when the bribe is accepted. |
| /house exile | The House captain. | Removes a member from the House and blocks them from rejoining it until pardoned. |
| /house pardon | The House captain. | Lifts a member's block (from an exile or a resignation) so they can rejoin the House. |
| /house motto set | The House captain. | Sets the House motto. Mottos are trimmed and can be up to 120 characters. |
| /house rally | The House captain. | Spends House currency and starts both House buffs at the same time. |
House currency and rally
House currency is the House balance shown on House information. It is not the same as House points.
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| How House currency grows | Members donate their own currency to their current House. The donation reduces the member balance and increases the House balance. |
| What rally costs | A rally costs 20,000 House currency. |
| Who can rally | Only the House captain can start a rally. |
| What rally activates | Rally starts both a +10% currency buff and a +10% XP buff for House members. |
| How long rally lasts | Both buffs last 7 days. |
| When rally is blocked | Rally is rejected if either House buff is already active or the House does not have enough House currency. |
Bribe reference
A captain can spend House funds to recruit a member of another House.
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Who can bribe | Only the House captain, and only against a member who currently belongs to a different House. |
| Confirmation | The captain chooses an amount and confirms an ephemeral, no-refunds prompt before the bribe is sent. |
| Cost and reward | The amount is paid 1:1 — the House is charged the amount and the member receives the same amount, but only when the bribe is accepted. |
| Accepting | The bribe appears in the target's inventory, scoped to the sending House. Accepting moves them into that House; it does not let them pick a House. A member can hold bribes from several Houses at once. |
| When accept fails | If the House can no longer cover the amount when the member accepts, the accept is rejected and the bribe stays pending. Exiled or resigned members blocked from the House cannot be bribed into it. |
Election reference
Elections are House-specific. Members can only trigger, nominate, and vote in their own House.
| Stage | Rules |
|---|---|
| Calling an election | Members add support for an election. If the House has no captain, the lower vacant threshold is used. If the House already has a captain, the challenge threshold is used. |
| Trigger threshold | The required support is based on the configured percentage of active House members, then clamped between the configured minimum and maximum vote counts. Defaults are 20% of active members, minimum 1 vote for a vacant House, minimum 2 votes to challenge an existing captain, and maximum 5 votes. |
| Active member window | The active-member count uses the configured activity window. The default window is 30 days. |
| Existing elections | A House cannot start another election while one is already active. |
| Election cooldown | When an election closes, the House enters an election cooldown before another election can be called. The default cooldown is 30 days. |
| Nominations | After enough support is recorded, nominations open. Members nominate themselves and submit their proposed motto and candidate statement. |
| Nomination eligibility | Candidates must still be in the House. Servers can require a minimum member level and a minimum number of days in the House. Defaults are no level requirement and no membership-age requirement. |
| Voting | Voting opens after nominations close. House members vote for one candidate and can change their vote while voting is open. |
| Default timing | Nominations last 48 hours by default. Voting then lasts 120 hours by default. |
| Closing the election | When voting closes, the winner becomes captain and the winner's motto becomes the House motto. A single-candidate election can close with that candidate as winner. In multi-candidate elections, the top candidate must have at least one vote and must not be tied; otherwise leadership is not changed, but the cooldown still applies. |
Setup checklist
Create at least two Houses before enabling member sorting or Cup seasons.
Add Discord roles for Houses if members should visibly carry their team in the server.
Add a House channel for each House if you want join, leave, and election announcements posted there.
Choose Cup duration, break length, start time, announcement timing, and Cup channel before enabling scheduled Cup seasons.
Review election thresholds, active-member window, nomination window, voting window, cooldown, minimum level, and membership-age requirements before enabling elections.
Explain to captains that rally spends House currency and activates both House buffs together.
Important notes
Active Cup seasons can lock parts of House configuration so the current competition remains consistent.
House role assignment depends on Discord permissions and role hierarchy. A member can still have stored House state when role assignment fails.
Surges and catch-up settings are designed to keep Cup seasons competitive, not to replace normal House point activity.
House points and House currency are separate. Points affect lifetime totals and live Cup scoring. House currency is donated by members and spent by the captain on rallies and bribes.
Exiling and resigning both block re-entry to that House until a captain pardons the member. Joins, leaves, and switches are also recorded in the community activity feed and announced to the relevant House channels.
The captain role is House governance state; it is separate from Discord server permissions.
House-related achievements can reward members for visiting Houses, winning Cups, placing in Cup seasons, voting, being nominated, or serving as captain.
Troubleshooting
Members are not receiving House roles
Confirm Nox has Manage Roles and is higher than each House role in Discord's role list.
The Cup did not start
Check that Houses are enabled, at least two Houses exist, Cup scheduling is enabled, the Cup channel is valid, and the configured start time is in the future.
Election controls are unavailable
Review the election thresholds, cooldowns, nomination window, voting window, member level requirement, and minimum House membership age.
A member cannot accept a bribe
Confirm the sending House still has enough House currency, the member is not blocked from that House, and the bribe is still pending in their inventory.
A rally cannot be started
Confirm the acting member is the House captain, the House has at least 20,000 House currency, and neither rally buff is already active.
