Leveling and experience

Key features

Configurable XP sources

Award experience from messages, reactions, and voice activity. Each source can be enabled separately, with cooldowns, speed, ignored channels, and ignored roles to keep progress fair.

Level rewards

Grant currency, roles, or both when members reach configured levels. Rewards can make progression visible without staff manually checking milestones.

Level-up announcements

Post level-up messages in the active channel, a configured channel, or a quiet mode depending on how public you want progression to feel.

Profiles and leaderboards

Members can view their own progress, compare server rankings, and see how close they are to the next level. Profiles and leaderboards make XP, currency, achievements, and rank progress visible without staff intervention.

Best for

  • Communities that want steady, passive progression from normal participation.

  • Servers that want roles or currency to unlock naturally as members stay active.

  • Staff teams that want leaderboards and profiles without manually tracking message or voice activity.

How it works

Staff configure XP rules

Choose which activity sources award XP, set cooldowns and speed, exclude channels or roles, and decide where level-up messages should appear.

Nox observes eligible activity

Message, reaction, and voice events are checked against the server's settings before experience is written to member progress.

Members level up

When a member crosses a level threshold, Nox updates their level, grants configured rewards, and sends any enabled level-up announcement.

Progress stays visible

Members can inspect profiles and leaderboards, while staff can tune rewards and XP settings from the dashboard.

Setup checklist

  • Enable only the XP sources that match your community's activity style.

  • Use cooldowns and ignored channels to avoid rewarding spam, bot channels, or staff-only areas.

  • Add level rewards for milestone levels where members should receive a role, currency, or both.

  • Choose a level-up announcement destination before enabling public messages.

  • Keep Nox above any reward roles it should assign.

Important notes

  • Leveling is activity-driven. There is no scheduled background job that invents missed XP later.

  • Voice XP depends on observed voice state changes. If Nox misses a session, it does not rebuild the missing interval from Discord history.

  • XP progress can still be saved when a reward role or announcement fails. Nox records the failure so staff can fix permissions or configuration.

  • Level rewards can combine role assignment and currency payouts, so milestone levels can unlock both visible status and economy value.

  • Currency, quests and achievements, and Houses build on member progress, but each has its own public docs page.

Troubleshooting

Members are not gaining XP

Check that the relevant XP source is enabled, the channel and member roles are not ignored, and the cooldown has expired.

A reward role was not assigned

Confirm Nox has Manage Roles and is higher than the reward role in Discord's role list.

Level-up messages are missing

Check the announcement destination, channel permissions, and whether announcements are disabled or set to a quieter destination.
