Observed-message cleanup
Nox tracks messages it sees in selected channels and deletes them after the configured delay.
Channel and role filters
Admins choose tracked channels, ignored roles, and whether messages from Nox or other applications should be ignored.
Bulk and single-message cleanup
Nox groups due messages by channel, bulk-deletes recent messages, and falls back to single-message deletes for old or leftover messages.
Automatic teardown on permanent failure
If every configured channel permanently fails because of missing access or invalid configuration, Nox disables Auto Delete and records an Errors page entry.
Best for
Channels where member replies should disappear after a short retention window.
Temporary discussion, bot-output, or utility channels that should not keep a long visible history.
Reducing repeated manual cleanup work without deleting every channel's history.
How it works
Admins configure cleanup
Staff enable Auto Delete, select channels, choose the retention interval, add ignored roles, and choose bot-message filtering.
Nox tracks eligible messages
When a message is created, Nox checks the saved Auto Delete settings. If the channel and author match the rules, Nox stores the message id as pending cleanup.
Nox deletes due messages
The scheduled cleanup deletes due messages by channel, clears tracked messages that were already deleted, and quickly reschedules when backlog remains.
External deletes are handled
If Discord reports a message or batch was deleted by another path, Nox removes matching pending cleanup entries.
Setup checklist
Select only the channels where delayed cleanup should apply.
Choose a delay between 300 and 604800 seconds.
Add ignored roles for members whose messages should not be tracked.
Decide whether to ignore messages from Nox and whether to ignore messages from other applications.
Confirm Nox can view channels, read message history, and manage messages in every tracked channel.
Important notes
Auto Delete only tracks messages observed after the feature is enabled and while the bot is online. It does not scan older Discord history.
The feature deletes Discord messages later; it does not edit messages or keep a visible record after cleanup entries are removed.
Discord bulk-delete age limits still apply. Old messages fall back to single-message deletion.
Missing messages during cleanup are treated as already deleted and removed from the pending cleanup set.
There are no Auto Delete slash commands or member-facing controls.
Troubleshooting
Messages are not being tracked
Confirm Auto Delete is enabled, the channel is selected, the author does not match an ignored role or bot filter, and the bot was online when the message was created.
Messages are not being deleted
Check Manage Messages and Read Message History permissions in the tracked channel. If all channels permanently fail, Nox disables the feature and records an Errors page entry.
Cleanup is delayed
Rate limits, backlog, and Discord's bulk-delete limits can delay removal. Cleanup runs again quickly when work remains and backs off when every tracked channel is rate-limited.
